Case Study: Rebuilding Momentum for a National Coalition
A national health coalition had an important mission and an established role in its field, but the organization had lost momentum. Membership engagement had slowed, revenue growth was limited, and its advocacy work needed a clearer direction.
The challenge wasn't simply to increase membership or launch a new advocacy campaign. The organization needed to strengthen how it operated while giving members and external partners a clearer reason to engage.
The Challenge: The coalition was struggling with stagnation, unclear priorities, and limited member engagement. At the same time, it had an opportunity to strengthen its advocacy presence and become a more effective voice on federal patient safety policy.
The Work: I worked across several parts of the organization at the same time, streamlining governance and internal operations while developing a more focused approach to membership growth and advocacy.
That included strengthening member engagement, clarifying organizational priorities, and building an advocacy strategy around specific policy objectives. The work also focused on increasing the coalition's visibility and strengthening relationships with policymakers and external partners.
The Result: Within six months, membership engagement increased by 300% and annual revenue grew by 35%. The coalition also advanced bipartisan federal patient safety legislation, strengthening its presence with policymakers and giving members a clearer connection between their participation and the organization's advocacy work.
